Joseph Stemmle

Financial Adviser, Ameriprise Financial

There are advisers who are active volunteers, and then there is Joseph Stemmle. Working with 50 households on his own and providing financial planning support to another 150 households for his seven-adviser independent Ameriprise team in suburban Richmond, Virginia, Stemmle runs his firm’s process committee and internship program, and serves as an adjunct instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University, his alma mater. He’s also program coordinator for its CFP program. But that’s just the start.

Stemmle, 30, is president-elect of the Financial Planning Association’s NexGen National Board and an FPA PridePlanners Host, which supports LGBTQ planners and provides education to planners who serve LGBTQ Americans. He also is president-elect of FPA of Central Virginia and serves as co-chair of its two-day education symposium.

In addition to those professional contributions, he serves on the Richmond treasurer’s Financial Awareness Coalition, which provides one-on-one financial counseling to residents, and works with the Virginia Economic Council, where he helped secure funding and volunteers for the Stock Market Program, which had never been incorporated into the Richmond public school curriculum. Oh yes, he also co-chairs the state’s second-largest food drive and co-chaired an effort that gave away 15,000 backpacks and school supplies to poor local students. “My days are long, but I really enjoy everything I’m doing,” Stemmle said.
